KILLEEN (February 2, 2009)--A dog that mauled a 4-year-old Central boy during a Super Bowl party Sunday in Killeen was placed in quarantine and the dog’s owner was cited for not having proof of rabies vaccination or a city dog license, police said Monday.

Police responded to the incident around 5 p.m. Sunday in the 4900 block of White Rock Drive.

A witness told officers the boy was at his grandmother’s home when he put his face in a 3-inch hole in a privacy fence and called the neighbor’s pit bull by name.

The dog responded, but bit the child, who lost about 30 percent of his lower lip and required extensive surgery at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

The dog will remain in quarantine for 10 days, police said.

Getting rid of vicious pit bulls is a great idea, but let's concentrate on their owners...Whoever harbors a vicious dog that kills someone should go to prison for homicide...and the trip to prison should be preceded by a public flogging of 25 lashes with an 8' bullwhip...or 10 lashes across the bare buttocks upon arrival at the correctional facility with a wet rattan cane, carried out by a muscular, martial arts trained state trooper, JUST AS SINGAPORE DOES. Would the attacks totally stop ? doubtful, but you can bet on the numbers taking a nosedive.

Quir trying to blame the little kid or his parents. The kid was in his own backyard with parents nearby, where he normally would be safe--except for the unforeseen factor----the able-to-be-vicious pitbull next door. Put blame where it belongs--Blame the darn dog, not the little kid who--as witnesses said-- did nothing to provoke the dog. Quit making excuses for a mean unpredictable dangerous animal. I see a pitbull loose--I kill it and say Good Riddance.

WHERE WAS THE 4 YEAR OLDS PARENTS???? THEY SHOULD BE LOOKIN AT THEMSELVES INSTEAD OF BLAMING EVERYBODY ELSE. THEY'RE ON THE NEWS TALKIN ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THE CHILD GOT SUPPOSEDLY BIT. WHERE WHERE THEY AT WHEN THE CHILD WAS GETTING BIT. CAN WE SAY BAD PARENTING?????? YOU SHOULD OF BEEN WATCHING YOUR CHILD, NOT PUTTING IT OUTSIDE CAUSE YOU WERE HAVING A PARTY!!
