INDIANAPOLIS (February 12, 2009)--The NCAA is ordering Abilene Christian University to vacate 10 football victories from 2007 and placed the track program on two years' probation with school-imposed scholarship reductions.
The ruling Thursday cited major violations in both programs.
The NCAA said assistant football coaches improperly helped two players to complete correspondence courses to gain eligibility.
The association said track coaches offered a range of impermissible inducements to recruits and athletes.
The track benefits included free housing for two athletes who never attended the school and cash and gifts for international athletes who went to holiday parties when they stayed on campus through the winter break.
Abilene Christian voluntarily cut scholarships to 10.5 from 12.6 in both men's and women's track.
The NCAA reduced the number of official visits in football and track.
