BELTON (February 14, 2009)-- Dr. Randy O’Rear doesn’t assume the presidency of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor until June, but he has unveiled a plan for reorganizing the school’s senior leadership.

O’Rear announced the reorganization Friday.

“I have great confidence in our senior leadership team and look forward to working with these wonderful professionals as we continue to build on our solid foundation of excellence in higher education at UMHB,” O’Rear said.

University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Trustees unanimously voted in September to name O’Rear as the university’s 19th president and CEO, effective on June 1.

O’Rear, 43, will become the first UMHB president who also graduated from the university.

O’Rear succeeds Dr. Jerry Bawcom, who announced late last month he plans to step down at the end of the current academic year to become Chancellor.

O’Rear has been on the university’s staff for 20 years, where he has served as an assistant basketball coach, an assistant director of advancement, director of development, associate vice president for enrollment management and vice president for external relations.

Bawcom, 64, who guided the university in Belton through a more than 15-year period of academic, financial and athletic growth, announced on Aug. 29 he will step down at the end of the school year as the schools 18th president.
