HOUSTON (February 17, 2009)--A woman has given birth to a girl after she was shot in the neck by her husband, who police say then killed himself.

Doctors performed an emergency Cesarean section on Kenia Martinez, 30, who was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition after the shooting at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Houston police told the Houston Chronicle that Martinez remains in critical condition and her baby is in stable condition.

Police say Francisco Javier Diaz-Samaria, 26, shot Martinez in the neck at their apartment.

He was found dead at the scene of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.

Two of the couple's children were at the apartment at the time of the shooting, but they were not injured.

Investigators say at least one of the children witnessed all or part of the incident.

My prayers are for this family. I to hope the two that witnessed all or part of this tragedy will have proper help. They are going to need lots of help, love and support. The mother will also need help and now with a new baby too. I pray that family, friends and neighbors will come forward and help.

The hardest hit by this event will be the two children who possibly saw their dad shoot their mom. They had to stay in the home with their dad's gruesome blown up corpse and their mom hurt and bleeding, until help arrived. These are things children should not have to see. I hope they are given some counseling.
