MOODY, Texas (February 18, 2009)-News 10 KWTX-TV ceased analog television service at 11:35 p.m. on February 17, 2009; 44 minutes later, News 10 KWTX-DT began transmitting full powered digital service on Digital Channels 10.1 and 10.2.

If you watch News 10 on Time Warner Cable, Grande Communications, Direct TV or Dish Network you should not have a problem seeing station programming following Tuesday’s conversion.

If you watch News 10 on another cable or satellite provider and are not seeing regular programming, you should CONTACT YOUR LOCAL PROVIDER.

If you previously watched News 10 on an analog television connected to rabbit ears or a rooftop antenna, you can continue to watch programming by:

  • installing a digital-to-analog converter box on your television set,
  • subscribing to cable or satellite service or
  • buying a television with a digital tuner.

If you have a digital-to-analog converter box and are having a problem receiving News 10, you should do one or more of the following:

  • carefully check the owner’s manual that came with your converter box to make sure you have followed all of the required setup steps and
  • RE-SCAN THE CHANNELS on your converter box (this might take a few minutes).

If you have a digital television and are having a problem receiving News 10, you should do one or more of the following:

  • carefully check the owner’s manual that came with your digital television box to make sure you have followed all of the required setup steps and
  • RE-SCAN THE CHANNELS on your digital television (this might take a few minutes).

If you have completed the above procedures and are still having problems viewing News 10 and are using a RABBIT EAR ANTENNA, you might need to purchase an OUTSIDE MOUNTED ANTENNA to insure that you will receive a good signal.

If none of these procedures correct the problem, contact the Federal Communications Commission at 1-888-225-5322 (888-CALL-FCC) for assistance.

To speak to a local technician on the phone, contact News 10 at 254.776.1330 and press option one.

For one-on-one personal assistance, you can visit your local Best Buy retail store, which has been designated the regional walk-in help center for the WACO-TEMPLE-KILLEEN-BRYAN Television market.

Digital History
News 10 was the first station in Central Texas to broadcast a digital signal, at times offering High Definition Television (HDTV).

KWTX-DT first went on the air on Friday, May 11, 2001 at 5:10 p.m. and began broadcasting regular programming Tuesday, May 15, 2001 on Digital Channel 53.

As technology advanced and digital televisions began to saturate the viewing market, News 10 began encoding its digital channel, KWTX-DT, to display 10.1 even though it continued to transmit on Digital Channel 53.

News 10 planned to move KWTX-DT (10.1 CBS) and NWTX-DT (10.2 CW) from Digital Channel 53 to Digital Channel 10 following the transition to digital television because the channels were transmitted on a band of UHF (channels 52 to 69) that would no longer be available following the federally mandated cutoff date.

In early January 2009, President Barack Obama petitioned congress to pass legislation to extend the deadline of the digital transition.

The bill, which became a law February 5, 2009, gave television stations the option of early shutoff it they met certain FCC requirements.

All television stations in the Waco-Temple-Killeen-Bryan market met the requirements and proceeded with the transition.

How many people still drive a Model T? Oh you have a new car! Why did you get rid of the Model T? It still ran good. How many people on a fixed income play lottery and can't buy a converter box? I see people spending hundreds of dollars on lottery that don't make enough money to support themself. So stop complaining and go but a box.

Oh my gosh, nothing ticks me off more than being in line with someone writing a check. Come on people, get away from the paper. You talk about wasteful, think of all the trees saved by not using paper. It's not 1960 any more!!!Embrace the new technology and buy a new TV!! And about the being rich comment, have you even checked the prices of Tv's lately? They are not expensive. If you care so much about your TV watching experience, then get a modern one and stop complaining.
