WASHINGTON (February 24, 2009)—The 2009 Appropriations bill, which the U.S. House is expected to pass later this week, includes more than $1.7 million for McLennan County including $1.3 million for a rail to trails project, $196,514 for advanced workforce training, $98,257 for a Heart of Texas Workforce Development Center literacy program and $166, 250 for Waco’s Paul Quinn campus, Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, said Tuesday.

The bill also includes $95,000 for the AVANCE Early Childhood Intervention and Family Support Program in Waco, Edwards said.

The money will help AVANCE serve 300 families from at-risk, low-income households with parenting education, early childhood development, English as second language and GED classes, Edwards said.
