WACO (February 24, 2009)—McLennan Community College trustees voted Tuesday night to name Dr. Johnette McKown, MCC’s current Executive Vice President, as the third president in the school’s 43-year-history.

Board members voted last month to name McKown the sole finalist for the job, but under law had to wait 21 days before making the offer official.

McKown will continue to serve as Executive Vice President until current MCC President Dr. Dennis F. Michaelis retires on Aug. 31.

McKown has been at MCC since 1989, first as Vice President of Business Services and in 2002 was promoted to Executive Vice President. Prior to her work at MCC, she served for 14 years at Paris Junior College.

McKown received her bachelor’s degree from Louisiana College, her master’s in education from Texas A&M University Commerce, an associate degree from Paris Junior College and her doctoral degree in education from Texas A&M University Commerce.

I hope she can pick the ball up and run with it. MCC and TSTC are the crown jewels of Waco. Waco's leaders should be using these two schools as selling points for possible new businesses coming to Waco.
