WACO (March 4, 2009)—U.S. District Judge Walter Smith has sentenced Tera Caldwell, 23, of Temple to nearly 17 years in federal prison for her role in a methamphetamine manufacturing conspiracy, U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton said Wednesday.

Smith sentenced Caldwell to 200 months in prison, fined her $2,000 and placed her under supervised release for three years after she completes her prison term, Sutton said.

Caldwell pleaded guilty on Jan. 8 to one count each of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture methamphetamine.

“By pleading guilty, Caldwell admitted that from January 2007 to October 2008, she conspired with others to manufacture methamphetamine and to obtain large amounts of pseudoephedrine from local pharmacies throughout Central Texas to be used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine,” Sutton said.

Smith upheld a sentencing enhancement provision, which means a longer term for Caldwell because she exposed her three children to the dangers of methamphetamine, Sutton said.

Sutton said two of her children tested positive for having methamphetamine in their bloodstreams.

Caldwell’s husband, Patrick Conn, pleaded guilty to the same charges and is facing as much as 30 years in prison, Sutton said.

He will be sentenced on April 1.
