(March 5, 2008) - It's a building that's been vacant for several years with no windows and a concrete walled basement and it’s what some might consider and ugly duckling in downtown Waco, but Clay Hill, president of Clearview Managed Services, says it's ideal for his company's needs.

The company plans to turn the former Raytheon administrative center and Cold War nuclear fall-out shelter at 700 Austin Avenue into a multi-purpose data center.

Clearview is an IT outsourcing company that has provided services since 1996.

Because it backs up data for companies from Dallas to San Antonio, Austin and Houston in Texas, Hill says Waco was an ideal location choice to expand operations because it’s right in the middle of everything.

Clearview's technology backs up other companies' electronic data, but becomes most important during times of crisis.

In the event of a natural disaster, terrorist attack or other catastrophe, Hill says his technology can duplicate the data for any company they support in literally one second.

Jim Vaughn, the President/CEO of the Waco Chamber of Commerce, says Chamber staff members such as like Sarah Roberts worked hard to bring Clearview to Waco.

While the company will only create a handful of high paying jobs immediately, it will likely open the door to other high tech jobs as it gains clients.

Secondly, Clearview representatives say transforming the building into their center will require gutting parts of it, putting at least $1 million into electrical work, and tons of construction: all easily totaling in the tens of millions of dollars.

The company plans to contract a substantial portion of that work locally, meaning money flowing into the area economy.

In addition, the company's services and infrastructure may attract other businesses to the Waco area, but the most immediate benefit Vaughn touts is be the enormous contribution that will be made by the newest multi-million dollar company to the city's tax base.
