PIEDRAS NEGRAS, Mexico (March 17, 2009)--Eleven people including a Texas schoolteacher died and 15 were hurt when a tractor-trailer rig hit a bus carrying Canadian and U.S. tourists on a northern Mexico highway.

Officials say eight Americans are among the dead.

Alberto de la Rosa Vizcaino with the city of Saltillo, Mexico, said three Canadians died in Monday’s crash.

Coahuila state police said the bus was carrying retirees from McAllen to the northern state of Zacatecas.

Detective Jose Angel Herrera in Coahuila state says the driver of the tractor-trailer driver lost control of the rig, swerved, and then overcompensated before the truck crashed into the bus.

Investigators said the driver was drunk and will probably be charged with involuntary homicide.

One of those killed was Ana Maria Bujanos, 56, who was a reading teacher at Cummings Middle School in Brownsville.

Her husband, Chris Bujanos, said a friend told him Tuesday after hearing his wife named as one of the victims on the radio.

A U.S. consulate representative called him to confirm her death.

Ana Maria Bujanos was traveling to Zacatecas with another teacher from Harlingen during their spring

This is sad but true. I love traveling to Mexico for vacationing. But on the roads it can be very dangerouse. The laws for drivers are not as strict as in the US. So please be careful when traveling in the Mexican highways. I've lost friends on the roads out there. my prayers are with the families who lost a loved one.

Stay out of Mexico people. If it ain't the drug lords it's this. Pitiful.
