WACO (March 25, 2009)—Lake Air Drive at Bosque Boulevard has been reopened to traffic after being closed most of the day due to a gasoline spill.

Some homes and businesses were evacuated early Wednesday afternoon in the area of Lake Air Drive and Bosque Boulevard in Waco because of a gasoline spill at a Fina station.

The Valley Terrace apartment complex at Erath and Lake Air was evacuated, as well.

A daycare center on Lake Air was not evacuated, but parents were called to pick their children up.

The Lake Air entrance to H-E-B was closed because of the spill.

Part of Bosque is also closed to traffic.

Waco Fire Marshal Jerry Hawk said the operator of a tanker truck who was refilling the storage tanks at the Fina station was unable to shut off the flow.

As much as 100 gallons of gasoline spilled into the street and then into a drainage ditch before the flow could be shut off.

Crews were working early Wednesday afternoon to extract the gasoline, while keeping an eye on the sky because a rainstorm could complicate the effort.

A hazardous material team was using a substance similar to kitty litter to absorb the gasoline while state and local officials checked to make sure the spill has been isolated.

To someone near hear. You are correct you are no rocket scientist or a brain surgeon!!!! What do you think the driver does? Walk to the back of the trailer pick it up and tilt it to the right or lift to pour it out of the top of the trailer!!!! HAHAHA DUH They dump from the bottom of the trailer where the valves are !!!! The lids on the top always stay closed!! They have a valve on the side of the trailer for the vent and usualy 4 or 5 valves for each compartment of fuel. You might wanna do some research before you start posting... In other words SSSHHHH grown ups are talking!!!! HAHAHA

HEY: SOMEONE ,LOCATION: NEAR HERE, WE CAN TELL YOUR NOT A BRAIN SURGEON, BUT SO THAT YOU KNOW, MY HUSBAND DOES THIS FOR A LIVING, AND THERE IS A MASTER SHUT OFF SWITCH ON THE TRAILER, YOU WOULD NOT CLIMB UP ON TOP OF THE TRAILER TO SHUT OFF THE FLOW OF GAS FOR ANY REASON. THERE ARE THE VALVES ON THE SIDE WERE THEIR HOSES ARE HOOKED TO THE TRAILER.THEY HAVE A KILL SWITCH THERE, AND THEN AT THE FRONT FOR THE TRAILER THEY HAVE EMERGENCY SHUT OFF SWITCHES. THEY DO NOT LOAD FROM THE TOP OF THEIR TRAILER'S. THOUGHT YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW SINCE YOU FEEL THE NEED TO TALK ABOUT SOMETHING YOU HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT. DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU COME ON HERE, DOWNING PEOPLE.
