Good morning, it’s Friday March 27 and a change in the weather is in the works. Seventy years ago today, an acclaimed contralto who was barred from performing at Washington D.C.’s Constitutional Hall, sang in Waco Hall on the Baylor campus. Do you know who she was?

On March 27, 1939, acclaimed contralto Marian Anderson sang in Waco Hall on the Baylor University campus. (Two weeks later she performed an open-air concert in Washington, D. C. after she was turned away by the director of D.C.’s Constitutional Hall, a decision that outraged the public and led First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to resign from the Daughters of the American Revolution, which owned the hall.)
