AMARILLO (April 11, 2009)—Stanley Marsh 3, the 71-year-old millionaire Panhandle prankster whose 35-year-old Cadillac Ranch remains a roadside attraction along Interstate 40, has plans to build a very big replica of the water lilies pond of 19th century French impressionist Claude Monet.

He has been studying Monet’s paintings as he designs the pond.

Unlike Cadillac Ranch, however, this creation won’t be in a cow pasture.

The pond will grace the backyard of Marsh’s 300-acre spread in Amarillo, Toad Hall.

"Art should be hidden and I believe people should see it by surprise,” Marsh said.

He says a masterpiece above a supermarket produce section evokes a more authentic response than a well-publicized museum exhibit.

That was his intent in 1974 when he commissioned Cadillac Ranch.

Ten vintage Cadillacs, ranging from a 1948 club coupe to a 1963 sedan, were gathered from junkyards, private collectors and used car lots.

Each was buried nose first at a 45-degree angle and have since become a pop art landmark.

Rachel Location: Temple - GO AWAY!!!! Yeah, we have starving children in this country, yet the only starving children people pay attention to are the one's in OTHER COUNTRIES, which I can't understand. YOU, however, brought up your topic where it shouldn't have been brought up. So what, this guy has millions, he's putting some of HIS money into building something HE wants on HIS property!!! So you are saying that since he has money, he should donate it to starving children and not spend it on himself? Maybe he does donate to worthy causes in the country, how do you know if he doesn't? Did this article say anything about that? NO! So, judging by your statement, I think that YOU should take half of your monthly earnings (if you even have a job) and donate it all to feeding starving children in this country. I bet that you don't.... so your motto must be.... Do as you say..... not as you do????
