Senate Approves Congressional Gold Medal For A&M Professor
The US Senate has approved a Congressional Gold Medal for a Texas A&M University professor who’s considered the father of the “Green Revolution.”

(October 3, 2006)--The Nobel Peace Prize-winning father of the "Green Revolution" may soon be receiving the Congressional Gold Medal.
The US Senate voted last week to bestow the award on Norman Borlaug, but the resolution also must be approved by the House and signed by President Bush.
The Iowa native won the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize.
He's credited with saving perhaps a billion lives through his work developing disease-resistant wheat that increased yields in developing countries.
His work helped fight starvation in countries like India and Pakistan in the 1960s.
The 92-year-old former University of Minnesota scientist now lives in Texas and is distinguished professor of international agriculture at Texas A&M University.
He's the founder of the Des Moines, Iowa-based World Food Prize.
In February, President Bush awarded him the National Medal of Science.
