WACO (April 14, 2009)—China Spring School Superintendent Dr. George Kazanas was named Tuesday to fill the vacant superintendent’s job in Wichita Falls.

The Wichita Falls School Board announced the decision, but can’t officially hire Kazanas for 21 days under state law, the Wichita Falls Times Record reported Tuesday.

"This is a great step for me professionally and personally," Kazanas told the newspaper.

"I'm just excited to build the successes already here. I can't wait."

Kazanas has been China Spring’s superintendent for the past 10 years.

He’s a Baylor University graduate who started his career teaching business education at West High School.

He joined the China Spring district as an assistant middle school principal in 1994 and became superintendent in 1999.

He received his doctorate in education from Tarleton State University in May 2008.
