WACO (April 18, 2009)—Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, and Waco Mayor Virginia DuPuy will make a formal announcement Saturday about federal legislation that would establish the Waco Mammoth Site as part of the National Park System.

Edwards has filed the legislation in the U.S. House, and Cornyn and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, have filed the same measure in the U.S. Senate.

The bill endorses a plan that would permit the Park Service to join an existing partnership between Waco and Baylor University to protect and preserve the site and to promote visitor tourism.

The site, which was discovered more than 30 years ago, contains the largest known concentration of wooly mammoths that died in a single event.

A painstaking excavation of the site has uncovered the remains of 25 Columbian mammoths that died nearly 68,000 years ago, probably after they were caught in a flash flood.

John Cornyn tries to be everywhere these days. He is so bent on trying to put himself out there to be a front runner for the republican party. I think that he is way out of touch with modern day Americans. As a leader within the republican party, he will just pick up where John Mcain and Sarah Palin left off. That's not very good. His style is just old and played out. Somebody in the republican party should at least step up to make the 2012 race a competition. Even though I think President Obama will win a 2nd term.

THESE TWO SENATORS NEED TO SPEND SOME MONEY ON COVERING THE SITE WHERE THE 5,700 YEAR OLD TOOLS BOWLS WERE FOUND BY THE ALAMO, AND THE MEXICAN GUNS/SABRES(SANTA ANNA'S SURRENDER 1836 WERE FOUND BY THE SAN JACINTO MONUMENT!!! BUT I DO SUPPORT THE 10.1 MILLION TO BE SPENT AT THE WACO V.A.HOSPITAL FOR THE RETURNING VETERANS!!!
