HOUSTON (April 24, 2009)—A University of Houston student shot a homeless man to death on the school campus because he believes homeless people are a blight on society, authorities say.
Jeremy Lee Pierce remained jailed Friday after he was charged with murder in the shooting death of Joe Tall.
Police said Pierce has admitted killing Tall, 47, at a campus bus stop on Feb. 7.
Pierce, 32, made an initial court appearance Friday.
He’s held in lieu of $75,000 bond.
Several students on campus described Pierce as an aggressive person who often talked or ranted to himself.
University police initially arrested Pierce for threatening two students at residential complex with a gun.
