PLANO (April 25, 2009)--A man accused of shooting three people was rescued by suburban Dallas police from a burning car used in an escape attempt.

Plano police officer Andrae Smith said the man was in serious condition Saturday morning at a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Smith said officers responded to a call at 2:36 a.m. Saturday in northwest Plano and discovered two women and a man had been shot.

The suspected gunman escaped, but lost control of the vehicle, which crashed and caught on fire, trapping him.

Smith said the shooting victims were listed in serious condition at a hospital.

Dallas-Fort Worth television station WFAA reported 13 children were in the home at the time of the shootings, but none was injured.

They have been placed with family and neighbors.

Charges against the rescued man are pending.
