(October 16, 2006)--Airline regulators gave their blessing Monday to a new law that eases restrictions on long-haul flights from Dallas Love Field.
The Federal Aviation Administration removed the last obstacle to through ticketing at Love Field, just days after President Bush signed the law repealing the Wright Amendment.
The 1979 amendment was enacted to bolster then-fledgling Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
The repeal will allow nonstop service from Love Field to the rest of the country in 2014.
Fort Worth-based American Airlines late planned to begin offering one-stop tickets later Monday from Love Field through St. Louis.
It's unclear how quickly Southwest Airlines, which is based at Love Field, might act.
A spokeswoman for Southwest said the carrier was awaiting official word from regulators.
US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison's office says the FAA notified Congress Monday.
