WASHINGTON (May 1, 2009)-A Texas congressman who wants to see college football adopt a playoff system is comparing the Bowl Championship Series to communism.

Republican Rep. Joe Barton of Texas said Friday that efforts to tinker with the BCS are bound to fail.

He told a House hearing that the BCS is like communism and can't be fixed.

Barton has introduced legislation that would prevent the NCAA from labeling a game a national championship unless it's the outcome of a playoff system.

The coordinator of the Bowl Championship Series told the panel that a playoff system would threaten the existence of celebrated bowl games.

Fans, President Barack Obama and some lawmakers favor a playoff system.

The NCAA-BCS football championship situation is impossible to fix and needs to be left alone by government. Status quo is not perfect but it is better than what Joe Barton could ever legislate. The various playoff scenarios suggested will destroy the good the bowl games, as they are now, do for so many cities, charities, etc. No matter what team ends up on top at the end of a football year under any scenario--current, past or future-- the good teams below can come up with reasons they should be No. 1. Barton is no Solomon and he proved that in the hearing.

This is worse than the steroids in baseball scandal. I am so sick of the government worrying about trivial matters.
