New Diabetes Drug Approved
The FDA has approved a new drug to treat Type II diabetes.

(October l7, 2006)--Diabetics have a new way of controlling their blood sugar levels.
The Food and Drug Administration has approved Januvia, made by Merck, to treat Type II diabetes.
The disease affects about 20 million Americans.
Januvia enhances the body's own ability to lower blood sugar levels.
Clinical trials show it works just as well as older diabetes drugs but with fewer side effects such as weight gain.
But Januvia won't come cheap.
It's expected to cost from $3 to $6 a day, while older diabetes drugs can cost 50 cents a day.
