(October 19, 2006)—The Temple Police Department has been awarded a $14,489 US Justice Department grant to expand its Gang Resistance Education and Training program to all sixth grade students at a new middle school campus, Rep. John Carter, R-Round Rock, announced Wednesday.
"The GREAT Program is a valuable tool in keeping our students and communities safe from the threats of gang related activities,” Carter said.
"As a district Judge for more than 20 years, I know the devastating impact violence can have on the future of our youth. I applaud the City of Temple for proactively working with our students to keep them from getting involved in gangs,” he said.
