WACO (May 4, 2009)--A Waco woman was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison on Monday after she pleaded guilty to arson.

Leticia Ruiz pleaded guilty to arson in the October 2008 fire at the Vittles restaurant at N. 23rd Street and W. Waco Drive.

Ruiz admitted in court she poured lighter fluid in parts of the building and set it on fire.

She also was charged in connection with other fires that happened overnight on Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 that destroyed the historic Sanger Avenue School, the Townhouse Motel on Washington Avenue and a Chevrolet Suburban.

Those charges were dropped in exchange for the guilty plea.

The sentencing took place at 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon in Judge Ralph Strother's 19th State District Court.

Court dates are pending for Keith David Allen and Eric David Benavidez who are also charged in the string of fires.

Thanks "Been There"! its always nice to have ex-cons to put in their 2 cents worth. Maybe the prisons should make it an objective to educate the dumb asses they have to put up with...and possibly teach them a few manners while they're at it.

To Been There, Take your anger out elsewhere, You did the crime and paid the time!!! I was raised better and have never been arrested, don't eat pork rinds, drink beer or watch Jerry Springer, or have anyone that I know or associate with that is or has been in prison,. So I have no reason to visit one. And I still stand by what I said; If prisons were terrible places then people would live better lives to stay out of them!! Period. And you sound like you learned your lesson and do not want to go back, and I'm thankful for that. And as far as hard work, I've done my share, in the real world, not behind bars. And no I have no sympathy or empathy for people in prison or jail.

To "Someone": You obviously have never visited a Texas prison if you think they are a Martha Stewart "country club" with just "three square meals and a roof" over inmates heads. As far as your comment of "make the prisons a terrible place to be", you can rest assured they already are. I could tell you stories that would raise the hair even on your red neck. If you had done any research you would know that many Texas prisons grow crops outside the prison walls and fences and many of those lowly inmates know the feel of the working end of a hoe. How about you? Oh wait, that would mean you would have to put down your beer and bag of pork rinds. Never mind. You can go back to watching Jerry Springer now.
