(October 19, 2006)--The Mexican Insurance Association reported Thursday that Hurricane Wilma in 2005 was the costliest storm in history for all of Latin America.
The group says the damage reached nearly $3 billion.
Of the total, about $1.8 billion involves insured damages.
Wilma hit Cancun on Oct. 21, 2005.
Wilma's damage was equal to that caused by the six most costly natural disasters in Mexican history, including a 1985 earthquake that leveled parts of Mexico City, and five hurricanes.
