ROCKDALE (May 7, 2009)--A Rockdale woman arrested in a theft from a local grocery store has been released from the Milam County Jail after posting a $10,000 bond.

Kristen Roberts, 19, was arrested Wednesday and charged in the theft of $12,000 on April 28 from the Brookshire Brothers grocery store.

David Roark, also 19, of Madisonville, was arrested in connection with the theft as well.

Rockdale police say Roberts worked in the office of the grocery store.

Roberts is accused of counting the previous day's receipts and stashing the money in a sack, which she later secured under her coat before leaving the store.

A Rockdale police investigator told News 10 the theft was discovered sometime later.

Police think the two left Rockdale after the heist and took a trip to New Mexico, during which they spent "as much of it as they could," an officer said.

Roberts turned herself in to Rockdale police on May 5.

Roark was arrested in Madisonville on the Rockdale warrant the day before.

Roark remained in the Madison County Jail Thursday under a total of $30,000 bond.

A Rockdale investigator told News 10 Roark has a history with Rockdale police and has been charged with evading arrest and possession of a controlled substance after a high-speed car chase between Rockdale and Cameron.

Officers reported during the chase the driver was smoking crack and said he told officers after he was caught that he had paid good money for the drugs and wasn't going to let them go to waste.
