WACO (May 12, 2009)-Lake Waco will begin getting an aquatic upgrade this week.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, along with representatives from the City of Waco and Texas Parks and Wildlife Inland Fisheries are partnering to enhance Waco Lake's aquatic environment.

Beginning Tuesday, representatives from the three entities as well as other volunteer groups will be adding native aquatic plants, vegetation, and hybrid Striped White Bass to the lake.

It is a combined effort to boost the aquatic habitat of Lake Waco.

This habitat improvement effort will last about three weeks and will be focused around Woodway, Speegleville and Reynolds Creeks.

For more information, or to volunteer for this aquatic restoration effort, contact Park Ranger Eric Haskell at the Waco Lake Office at (254) 756-5359.

Good luck finding a good spot, Les, with all the iron railing that makes the lake a fortress against visitors. And I hope you have a good income, you'll need one just to afford to get in the gates.
