WACO (May 14, 2009)--Several local dealerships are on the list of 789 Chrysler dealers nationwide that the automaker plans to drop as part of its restructuring process.

The list Chrysler LLC submitted to a bankruptcy court Thursday lists Mike Craig Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep of Hillsboro, Jeff Hunter Chrysler of Waco, Marstaller Motors of Waco, Mike Craig Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep of Gatesville, Waco Dodge Sales and Allen Samuels Austin Dodge, which is owned by Waco-based Allen Samuels Enterprises.

The automaker has about 3,200 dealers but says that's too many. t wants to have stronger, more profitable dealers with better facilities.

Chrysler spokeswoman Kathy Graham said earlier the company would notify specific dealers before commenting publicly.

The dealers likely will have a right to appeal to get off the list.

Chrysler is planning to drop more dealerships in Texas than in any other state.

Chrysler LLC said in a bankruptcy court filing that 50 of the 789 dealerships it wants to eliminate are in Texas.

The Detroit automaker says many of the targeted dealers' sales
are too low, and that its network is outdated and has too many
stores competing with each other.
