LUFKIN (May 14, 2009)--An East Texas man who admitted shooting his pregnant girlfriend in the head has been given a life sentence.
Darrell D'Juan Ivey of Lufkin bowed his head Thursday as he made the admission in court.
Ivey, 21, entered into a plea deal that spared him from a possible death penalty if convicted in the murder of Claudia Rodriguez, 20.
Police say Ivey called 911 in February 2007 and told authorities Rodriguez had shot herself in an apparent suicide attempt in the house where the two lived.
Rodriguez was six months pregnant with Ivey's child.
She died days later, after her unborn daughter, Karen Maria Rodriguez, died.
At the time of the shooting, Ivey had been training as a prison guard.

Excuse me but he didn't turn himself in. He tried to say the girl tried to commit suicide. Since when did passing the blame become turning yourself in..by clear stupidity. Geez
