(October 30, 2006)—1st Cavalry Division 1st Sgt. Ricky L. McGinnis was remembered Monday as a caring person.

McGinnis, from Hamilton, Ohio, died last Thursday of injuries he received when a roadside bomb detonated while he was on patrol in Muqdadiyah.

He was a 23-year Army veteran, who was serving in the same 1st Cavalry Division unit as his nephew, Joey Issacs, 19.

McGinnis is survived by his wife of 21 years, Kerstin, and his four daughters.

The family was stationed at Fort Hood.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

McGinnis was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division’s 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade.

The division is just beginning its second deployment to Iraq where it’s taking over responsibility for operations in and around Baghdad from Fort Hood’s 4th Infantry Division.
