(November 1, 2006)--President Bush says he wants Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Vice President Cheney to remain in his administration until the end of his presidency.
In an Oval Office interview, the president also says he is confident that Republicans will defy the odds and hold control of the House and Senate.
But Mr. Bush chose to steer clear of politics for the most part, declining to say if he could work with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi or Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid if Democrats won either the House or Senate.
When asked about John Kerry's remark that has been criticized as a slam on US troops in Iraq, the president said it didn't sound like a joke to him or the troops.
Kerry has apologized and said it was a botched joke.
Kerry told students at a campaign rally Monday in California that they needed to do well in school or else they might end up “stuck in Iraq.”
