Austin Woman Charged In Fort Hood Soldier’s Murder
A woman arrested in Austin was in the Bell County Jail Wednesday evening, charged with capital murder in the October 2008 murder of a Fort Hood soldier who had named her as a beneficiary of his $100,000 life insurance policy.

BELTON (May 20, 2009)—Kathryn Nellie Briggs was in the Bell County Jail Wednesday, charged with capital murder in the October 2008 slaying of Fort Hood E-6 Ryan Michael Sullivan who was found dead in a Killeen town home after he failed to report for duty on post.
Briggs was arrested last Thursday at her home at 2201 Keepsake Dr. in Austin.
Her bond is set at $750,000.
The indictment handed up by the Bell County Grand Jury says she conspired with another soldier, John Anthony Valdez, to kill Sullivan in order to collect the murdered man’s $100,000 life insurance policy, of which Briggs was a beneficiary.
It says Sullivan was stabbed or cut to death with a sharp object.
Valdez was arrested in November and charged in the killing.
His bond was set at $1 million.
The indictment also names Kyle James Moesch as a conspirator.
Killeen police found Sullivan’s body at a town home at 3405 Girard after military officials asked for assistance in checking on the soldier, who had failed to report for work.

She goes to trial the end of this month - we will then know what the truth is about Nellie - what I have read it is pretty much and done deal and she will be found guilty. She will probably plead out to receive a lesser sentence.

I used to work with Nellie and I must say she was quite the character. I'm not surprised at all by what has transpired. I'm just wondering is she still awaiting trial? I have looked for recent articles and haven't found anything.
