McALLEN (May 22, 2009)--A Las Vegas man was ordered held without bond Friday for trying to smuggle the same type of animal tranquilizers into the country that he may have used hours earlier to help an Oregon woman commit suicide in a Mexican motel.

U.S. Magistrate Peter Ormsby said Jeff George Ostfeld was a danger to the community and would be held until his trial on drug smuggling charges that could bring as much as a 20-year sentence.

Ostfeld was arrested at the Progreso International Bridge Monday.

Mexican authorities are investigating the death of Jennifer Malone of Roseburg, Ore., who was found in a motel in Nuevo Progreso Monday.
