(November 7, 2006)—Amtrak’s Texas Eagle, bound from Temple to Fort Worth, sheared the trailer of an 18-wheeler in half Tuesday afternoon in Meridian after the driver of the truck drove around the crossing arms and into the path of the oncoming train.
An investigator said truck was eastbound on Highway 22 around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday when the driver steered between the crossing arms, which were down, and attempted to cross the tracks.
He was evidently unable to see the oncoming train because of a second train that was stopped on an adjacent track.
No one was injured in the crash, although paramedics did check out passengers aboard the train.
