GATESVILLE (May 24, 2009)--Storm spotters reported seeing several funnel clouds in the skies over Central Texas Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters first reported seeing one or more funnels near the town of Osage, between Gatesville and Crawford along the Coryell/McLennan County line.
The Coryell County Sheriff's Department activated its "First Call" system to alert residents from Osage to Oglesby about the possibility of funnel clouds.
Another storm spotter reported seeing a funnel cloud near the town of Dublin in southwestern Erath County.
News 10 Meteorologist Keith Cavey said these types of funnels sometimes form in the type of warm, humid air associated with tropical weather systems.
He said the funnels are usually short-lived and rarely touch down.
The biggest concerns with Sunday afternoon's storms were heavy rain and occasional cloud-to-ground lightning.
Heavy rain earlier in the day caused some street flooding in parts of Killeen and Rockdale.

KWTX you need to use actual photos of actual sightings the day it happened. This picture is from last year, so none of the supposed "funnel clouds" on Sunday looked or were at this location in this picture!! Get new photos and don't put old ones up! Use a graphic picture, rather then old photos a resident of Killeen sent you from LAST YEAR!!
Pretty awesome sight! (I am thankful it didn't touch down, of course..)
