DALLAS (May 26, 2009)--Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins said Tuesday that Texas prison inmate Jerry Lee Evans, 47, is set to be cleared on an aggravated sexual assault conviction that put him behind bars for 23 years.

According to the Innocence Project of Texas, Evans would be the 21st wrongfully convicted Dallas County inmate cleared through DNA testing, which is more than any county in the nation.

Evans has a hearing Wednesday in state district court.

He was sentenced to life in prison in 1987 his conviction for aggravated sexual assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim was attacked after leaving an entertainment district near downtown Dallas.

She picked Evans out of a photo lineup.
