(May 28, 2009)—As comic readers know, the cornerstone of Archie comics for more than 65 years has been the love triangle between Archie, Betty and Veronica, but resolution may in sight.

But in August, publishes are rolling out a story titled, “Archie Marries Veronica Part 1: The Proposal.”

The tantalizing prospect of an end to Archie’s ambivalence raises more questions than answers.

A press release announcing the impending nuptials says only two things are certain; “with the Lodges as hosts, this will be the biggest wedding Riverdale has ever seen... and the biggest Archie Comics story since the famous "Love Showdown!"

The “Love Showdown” storyline, which appeared in 1994 and 1995, promised the possibility that Archie would finally choose between Betty and Veronica, but in the end he opted for an old flame, Cheryl Blossom, instead.

Cheryl, however, wasn’t long for Riverdale, and has appeared only occasionally since.
