WACO (June 02, 2009)-A local car dealer plans to speak out Tuesday against the government's involvement in the auto industry.
Waco Dodge will host a tea party from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday on its lot just off Valley Mills Drive in Waco.
It's a way dealers are raising awareness about Chrysler's recent bankruptcy which lead to the auto-maker ending several franchise business including the one held by Waco Dodge.
The dealership now has until June 9 to clear out its new inventory.
“I think lots of people are still shocked at what's happening to Waco market in particular,” said Waco Dodge General Manager Holly Durham. “For Chrysler to remove their product from our market completely is very confusing to most people and doesn’t make a lot of business sense.”
Durham says she thinks General Motors is just the second chapter of this story and speculates GM dealerships will follow a similar path.

Toby, you have all the tea parties you want. When you get something done about what you are tea partying about, let me know and I will join you on the next one. I think all of the bailouts are a case of the need of the few can't outweigh the needs of the many. Waco Dodge just like the other 799 or whatever the number is that is closing, got chose. Besides, doesn't Mr. Nay own Waco Hyundai also? I'm sure he can tell you that Hyundai outsells Dodge by a longshot. The Dodge has been in America a lot longer than Hyundai. If I own a business and that business was to fail, I wouldn't have a choice except to move on to the next episode. If I lose my job, I don't have a choice except to move on and look for another one. In both of these instances, me protesting will not solve anything in my eyes. For me to open a business should show that I believed in it. I wouldn't have to protest to show that.
The reason we protested was to show bail outs DON'T WORK. If the govt can run the auto industry what are they going to do to health care? What are they going to do with the ACES Act which will cost you a tax every time you flip a switch? The federal government should not be involved in free enterprise. The tea parties are about limited government, fiscal responsibility and free markets. The taxes that we will all pay for years to come to cover the billions of dollars in loans that Chrysler won't have to repay (because the union got paid first) will cost us dearly. If you don't stand up now for this industry who is going to stand up when it's YOUR job, YOUR business? Get informed and get involved before you spout off from the couch.
:huge eyeroll: You realize that if the government had done nothing all of the Chrysler dealerships would have folded.
