HILLISTER (June 2, 2009)--A Tyler County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man who authorities say pointed a rifle at officers responding to a domestic disturbance call.

Sheriff David Hennigan said four deputies responded to a home Monday near Hillister about 90 miles northeast of Houston after a woman called 911 and reported that her husband had threatened her.

Hennigan said the man was holding a shotgun and hollered at officers not to come any closer when they tried to approach him to talk to him.

Hennigan said the man was shot after he jumped on the back of his truck and raised the weapon in an aggressive manner.

The Texas Rangers will investigate.

Neither the man nor the officer who fired the shot was identified.
