(November 17, 2006)—An early morning fire Friday at a fraternity house at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln left one student dead and three others in critical condition.
The fire broke out just before 4 a.m. Friday on the second floor of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity house.
Witnesses say some people jumped out of the windows of the three-story building to escape the flames.
Thirty-nine people live in the frat house.
The student who died was 19, but his name has not been released.
The hospitalized students are 20-year-old Dan Spitler of Elk Horn, 22-year-old Travis Mann of Beatrice and a third unidentified student.
It took firefighters about three hours to put out the blaze.
The building did have working fire alarms but no sprinkler system.
Investigators don't know how the fire started.
