Teenage Girl Found Dead at Central Texas Treatment Facility

MOOREVILLE (June 3, 2009)--The death of a teenage girl at a Falls County treatment facility was under investigation Wednesday.
Falls County Sheriff Ben Kirk told News 10 the unnamed 15-year-old girl was found unresponsive Monday night at the Avalon Treatment Facility, which is located near the Mooreville Community in western Falls County.
Sheriff's deputies and emergency medical responders were dispatched to the facility at 9:43 p.m. Monday, but were unable to revive the girl.
The Avalon Center is a residential treatment center for youth, according to an Avalon spokesman.
Clients are sent there from a variety of sources including courts and Child Protective Services.
The capacity of the Mooreville facility is 32.
Falls County Justice of the Peace Sharon Maxey pronounced the girl dead at the scene and ordered an autopsy.
The initial investigation indicates the death resulted from a self-inflicted injury.
