(November 19, 2006)--Sprinklers will be installed at Nebraska Wesleyan University, after a deadly fire raced through a fraternity house near campus.
Nineteen-year-old Ryan Stewart was killed. 20 year-olds David Spittler and Aaron McGuire, along with 22 year-old Travis Mann were critically injured.
Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity President Charlie Bell says the chapter had been celebrating the initiation of 16 pledges when the fire occurred.
Fire investigators combed the scene over the weekend looking for the cause, but so far, it remains undetermined.
According to fire codes, sprinkler systems are not required in the 1928 building, listed on the National Historic Register, and others like it, unless they are being remodeled.
Nonetheless, university administrators say they are committed to putting them in, to possibly save lives.
