LORENA (June 8, 2009)—A cleanup was underway Monday in Lorena after an accidental discharge of wastewater into North Cow Bayou.

A mechanical malfunction sometime between Sunday and Monday morning at Lorena’s wastewater treatment facility caused the sludge discharge.

The discharge has been stopped and crews were cleaning up the spill Monday afternoon.

Officials have notified the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife about the spill.
