HOUSTON (June 17, 2009)--Continental Airlines says it has taken steps to ensure that proper procedures are followed after two unaccompanied girls were placed on wrong Continental Express flights over the weekend.
An 8-year-old College Station girl erroneously ended up in Fayetteville, Ark., and a 10-year-old Massachusetts girl was mistakenly sent to Newark, N.J., after boarding planes operated by ExpressJet, which is under contract with Continental.
Houston-based Continental said in a statement the mix-up was a "miscommunication among staff."
Wendy Babineaux said in a story for the Houston Chronicle that she had never seen so much incompetence in all her life.
Babineaux's attorney, Wayne T. Rife, told The Associated Press that his client became worried when the girl's father called to find out where their child was.
He said his client is concerned about how Continental Airlines handled the situation.

Is it really fair to blame the parents? Lots of parents "dont share a roof," and custody agreements must still be maintained, no matter how far apart the parents live. As a child of divorced parents I flew unaccompanied all the time, and there was never a problem. Airlines have very strict guidlines in place for such situations, and it is clear that it was the AIRLINE that dropped the ball. Do not let them off the hook by pointing fingers at the parents.
AS a divorcee with 2 children my kids are on those planes more than i want but at the same time each TIME one or the other parent pays $100.00 for babysitters if u are an UM (unaccompanied minor 15 or under) you cannot travel with out that plastic apparatus around your neck, Inside said plastic is the childs ticket, they also have a number for the parents BOTH of them, the one greeting that child is to be LISTED on the INSERT. NO CHILD UNDER THE AGE OF 15 shall have a Connecting flight, all NON STOP. Ask any flight attendent and or ticket agent about charges. Baggage and child care sold seperatly.
Why would you put an 8 year old and 10 year old on a plane or anything else for that matter by themselves?
