Rare Record Remains On eBay

(December 12, 2006)--You still might have a chance at getting that rare acetate of the first Velvet Underground album.

The Montreal man who sold his has been the victim of an eBay prankster.

Warren Hill bought a copy of "The Velvet Underground and Nico" at a flea market for 75 cents.

It turned out to be a rare acetate with alternate takes and a different order.

He put it up for sale on eBay, and on Friday, the winning bid was $155,401 by a man from Oakland, Calif.

Buit Hill told Canadian Press the winning bidder was fake.

Saturn Records of Oakland, which oversaw the sale, says it received an apologetic e-mail from the man believed to have been the high bidder.

The man said a prankster friend who used his eBay account without his knowledge submitted the bid.

Hill says he will try to sell the album again, but he's not sure if he'll auction it off on the Internet this time.
