WACO (June 25, 2009)—Jon Pursley, 40, of Waco, who was stabbed repeatedly in a random attack Wednesday evening at the Skinny’s convenience store at the intersection of New Road and North Valley Mills Drive, said his wide-eyed attacker told him, “I am going to kill you.”

Pursley remains in Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, where he’ll undergo surgery Friday for a broken leg he suffered in the attack, during which he was stabbed seven times in the stomach and back.

From his hospital bed Thursday, he said he was walking into the store to pre-pay before pumping gasoline into his car.

He said he saw a man standing nearby and assumed he was a panhandler, but said as he approached the door, the man moved toward him and out of the blue started hitting him.

When the man pulled out a knife, Pursley said he asked his attacker, “What are you doing?”

He said the man replied, “I am going to kill you.”

"You don't even know me." Pursley says he responded.

"I am going to kill you," the man said again.

Pursley said the man appeared to be enraged and was wide-eyed as he began to try to stab him repeatedly.

"The whole time I was thinking I was like what the hell is going on,” Pursley said.

The attacker fled on foot toward Applebee’s restaurant, but left the knife behind.

Police found the 12-inch kitchen knife on the ground near the scene of the attack.

Police are looking for a black man who’s 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11, weighs about 160 pounds and has short dreadlocks.

This is horrible. Jon, I pray for a speedy recovery, both physically and psychologically. This had to be a nightmare of an experience. Come on, Waco PD, catch this psycho and throw away the key.

"where were the police when this happened oh yeah they were busy busting alleged pot growers..what is wrong with this picture?" Let's blame the cops, shall we? If the closest fuzz wagon is 3 minutes away, the attack lasted 30 seconds...yup, the perp got away. If the 5-oh could predict these attacks, I'm sure they'd be there to catch the perp in the act. I'd LOVE for you to be a cop for a month and see if you can do a better job than they can!
