SAN ANTONIO (June 27, 2009)--The death of a 12-year-old Texas boy who was thrown to the ground by an older teenage friend while wrestling has been ruled a homicide.

Police say Juan Lara died on May 16, after Elijio Esquedo, 18, body-slammed the boy to the floor of a friend's apartment.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office ruled Friday that the cause of death was the combined effects of a physical altercation and severe myocarditis, the San Antonio Express-News reported on its Web site.

The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Esquedo, a convicted sex offender diagnosed with mental retardation at a young age, has not been charged in Lara's death.

Esquedo's father said it was an accident.
