(December 16, 2006)--Two party officials say former North Carolina Senator John Edwards is set to run for the White House in 2008.

He was the Democrats' vice presidential nominee in 2004.

The officials say he'll make an announcement late this month.

He'll speak from the New Orleans neighborhood hit hardest by Hurricane Katrina last year.

Edwards would then continue his announcement tour by traveling from New Orleans through the four key early presidential nominating states: Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

An Edwards spokesman would not confirm or deny any announcement plans.
