LAMPASAS County (July 06, 2009)-The Texas Department of Public Safety was investigating an accident Sunday that killed one Kempner teen and injured three others.
The accident happened around 3:15 a.m. Sunday on Farm-to-Market 580, about four miles east of Rumley in Lampasas County.
DPS dispatcher Garcia told News 10 a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina, driven by Jordan Lee Mason, 19, passed two other vehicles on FM 580 in a no-passing zone.
The Lumina then entered a left curve in the road at a high rate of speed and lost control, then overcorrected into a clockwise spin where it left the road and struck two trees, Garcia said.
Jonas Saul Wilkins, 18, of Kempner, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mason was taken to Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas, while passengers Correy Allen Mason, 18, of Woodway, and Lorenzo Rendon, 17, of Lampasas, were both transported to Scott and White hospital in Temple.
Rendon was listed in critical condition early Monday.
The conditions of the others were not available.
None of the four occupants in the Lumina were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

You know, I can understand the concerns about passing in a no passing zone. But what does being out at 3am have to do with it? And who said this young man lives with his parents? Maybe ya'll need to learn not to assume things. Do we have any updates on the injured boy? Were there any charges brought against the driver?
to mother, I would like to know the answer to that question too, but Jennifer seems to think her nephew did nothing wrong, BULL!! He was out at 3 am, speeding, and attempting to pass in a no passing zone. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Wilkins family and I pray for a speedy recovery for Lorenzo!!
for one i am not a selfish wench you are just stupid as heck and really need to get a life of your own and leave people alone
