DALLAS (July 7, 2009)--Former Texas Christian University football player Lorenzo Jones was hospitalized Tuesday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after he was shot in an altercation with his mother's boyfriend over an overturned can of beer.
The Broward County Sheriff's Office in Fort Lauderdale said Jones, 22, a former defensive tackle, was shot in the abdomen on June 30.
The Miami Herald reported Jones was listed in critical condition last week at Broward General Medical Center.
Spokeswoman Kathy Meyer said Tuesday that she couldn't find Jones listed in hospital records, but said she would make further inquiries.
Deputies said Jones was visiting his mother when he and her boyfriend, Ricky Von Welch, argued at her apartment complex.
Welch was jailed on an attempted murder charge.
Jones and two former TCU basketball players were accused of raping an 18-year-old student in her dorm room in October 2006.
Jones, who was never indicted, spent 11 months in jail before the charge was dismissed.

Hey Texas Hometown - This "CHILD" needs guidance??? At 22, no matter how old you may be, he is no child. And just because he was never indicted, the fact that he spent 11 months in jail seems very fishy to me.
