(December 27, 2006)--Former President George H. W. Bush told reporters Wednesday in Boca Grande, Fla. he will remember Gerald Ford as a "truly remarkable man."

Bush was vacationing in Florida with his wife Barbara and said he first heard of Ford's death from his former chief of staff in an email.

Ford died last night at his home in California. He was 93.

The elder Bush served both as a diplomat and as director of the Central Intelligence Agency during the Ford administration.

“He was typical Gerry Ford,” Bush said.

“It never went to his head that he was President and he was a truly remarkable man and we send Betty and the kids and the rest of the family our family's love. The President expressed it very well. I heard that and he spoke for a lot of us. And I was just add God bless the man. He was one of the very best,” Bush said.

Bush said he and the former first lady would attend Ford’s funeral.

“I am sure there will be a service in the National Cathedral and I'm proud to be there,” he said.
